The Patak Family
CISD food service team member, Ana Palma also known as "The Walnut Grove Lunch Lady" passed away at the age of 72.
Southlake lost a familiar and cherished face this month with the passing of Ana Palma, a longtime Carroll ISD Food Service team member, at the age of 72.
For more than 15 years, Ana served across multiple CISD campuses, with her final seven years spent at Walnut Grove Elementary. Born and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala, Ana and her husband Jose became US citizens and Southlake residents to be closer to their grandchildren.
Ana quickly became known by students and parents alike as “Grammy,” “the Walnut Grove lunch lady,” or simply “the little Southlake celebrity,” Ana had a gift for turning everyday moments into something special. Whether serving lunch with a smile or greeting Dragon fans at the Dragon Stadium concession stand, she made everyone feel seen and valued.
Her presence extended far beyond the cafeteria line. Ana loved cheering on her granddaughters at countless Dragon events and was often recognized around town by families, teachers, and students whose lives she had touched. PTO volunteers, staff, and parents describe her as someone who radiated joy and warmth, creating a sense of community wherever she went.
“She was truly a mini celebrity,” recalls her son-in-law, Jason Patak. “Everywhere we went in town, she would be stopped. It was remarkable how many people she touched and how deeply she was loved.”
Ana’s legacy in Southlake is one of connection, kindness, and community. A celebration of her life will be held at 4:30 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 18, 2025, at White’s Chapel United Methodist Church in the Sanctuary.
