With many people quarantining themselves away from the general population, it’s understandable to feel anxious during this period of uncertainty. Luckily, a few local organizations are responding positively to help those that need it most. Whether it’s delivering meals or simply keeping someone company, here are a few groups that are trying to help Southlake through the coronavirus one day at a time.
This article will be periodically updated. If you know about a local nonprofit or organization that is helping the community, email David@SouthlakeStyle.com.
Metroport Meals On Wheels
For the past several years, Metroport Meals On Wheels has provided hot meals for senior citizens that aren’t able to get out of the house. Now they’re needed more than ever, and Metroport Meals On Wheels is committed to continuing their mission even in the face of a pandemic. You can donate or volunteer at MetroportMOW.org, but be sure to follow their prevention procedures if you do plan to deliver meals.
GRACE
GRACE has always helped the most vulnerable, whether they be homeless or victims of domestic violence. GRACE looks to keep helping during the coronavirus pandemic as it will continue to distribute food in its west parking lot. Residents can help by purchasing items from its pantry emergency box, giving food at its donation station at 112 N. Scribner St. or donating directly online at GraceGrapevine.org.
Community Storehouse
Community Storehouse has always helped underprivileged families and children who needed it most. They’re continuing to do that by providing food and supplies to families in need. Food donations can be made to its Fort Worth location at 12001 Katy Road, or financial donations can be made online at CommunityStorehouse.org.
Southlake People Helping People
Southlake is strong when it comes together to help people. Created on March 15 by former Southlake city councilmember Al Zito, Southlake People Helping People is a Facebook group where residents collaborate to help with whatever needs its vulnerable populations require, from prescription pickups and deliveries to grocery shopping. Join them online at Facebook.com and see what you can do to help.
Southlake Community Group
Another recent organization that was started in response to the coronavirus is the Southlake Community Group. Started by Engel & Volkers real estate advisor Trusa Patel, the group helps community members by shopping, delivering, picking up supplies or simply calling someone for a friendly phone conversation. Residents can volunteer or request services either on Facebook.com or by emailing Trusa.Patel@EVRealEstate.com.
White’s Chapel UMC
In addition to moving its worship services online, White’s Chapel UMC is also launching WC Neighbor, a multifaceted response network that addresses the needs of the community. Whether you need food, supplies or prescription pickup, White’s Chapel aims to help you however it can. Email WCNeighbor@WhitesChapelUMC.com to have a volunteer assigned to you, or donate funds online at WhitesChapelUMC.com.
Gateway Church
Gateway Church is another religious organization that aims to provide relief in the face of the coronavirus. While it hasn’t launched yet, Gateway Church will provide an online initiative that connects a volunteer to someone in need in the community, whether it's food, medicine or a phone conversation. You can volunteer, donate or request services online at GatewayPeople.com.
