Declaring her intention to be a wedding planner after watching “The Wedding Planner” with Jennifer Lopez as a child, Alexis Stone made that dream a reality with her own business, Wedding Stone.
Through Wedding Stone, Alexis was constantly being asked by brides where they could get dresses for pre-wedding events such as rehearsal dinners, bridal showers and bachelorette parties.
Those inquiries were the spark that led Alexis to create The Little Bride Dress Company with her mom, Michelle Griggs.
“My mom has a background in fashion that she kind of gave up twenty-something years ago when I was born,” Alexis says. “And so I knew she would be the perfect person to partner with this on.”
With the pandemic providing the necessary free time to plan and prepare for The Little Bride Dress Company, Alexis and Michelle launched their business in January.
“I was like, ‘If we get one order, we’ll be happy,’” Alexis says. “And I think we ended up selling 19 pieces that first day.”
With a solid business plan, a robust social media presence and determination, Alexis and Michelle are steadily making The Little Bride Dress Company a success.
Part of their drive comes from their family. Almost 13 years ago, Alexis’ dad and Michelle’s husband had pancreatic cancer.
“So when you’re faced with your husband/dad almost dying five times, we have to rely on each other,” Michelle says. “So we knew going into this, we had to separate the mommy-daughter time to Michelle and Alexis, the business women.”
Despite the intentional separation, both Alexis and Michelle agree their mother-daughter relationship has grown stronger thanks to The Little Bride Dress Company.
“I would say I think it’s been good for Alexis to see me in a different light,” Michelle says.
And while Alexis and Michelle may sometimes agree to disagree, they never forget to respect one another.
“We have that mutual respect because we look at this as if it’s going to be our legacy,” Michelle says.
