Finding The Whimsy Cookie Company through Collins Tuohy, sister of football player Michael Oher who “The Blind Side” is about, Sheridan Gleason was inspired to bring the cookie company to Texas. So she presented the idea to her mom, Sharon Hicks.
“I thought it would be a great way for us to work together and build a business for our families,” Sheridan says.
With both of the women sold on the idea, the duo flew out to Memphis in October of 2018 to learn everything they could about The Whimsy Cookie Company — from baking and decorating to order and front and back of house operations.
With their cookie education done and a location in mind, Sharon and Sheridan opened the Southlake location of The Whimsy Cookie Company in September of 2019. After hard work, the mother-daughter duo had their own business.
“Besides getting to spend extra time together, I trust her explicitly, and she is a very hard worker,” Sharon says about working with her daughter. “I love spending time with her and know that she’s always in my corner and I'm in hers.”
With their business, Sheridan and Sharon have an oasis away from their busy lives. Sheridan has three boys and Sharon is still a practicing attorney.
“It’s nice to have this to have something that’s just ours and requires us to spend time together,” Sharon says. “It is nice working with someone who has the same thought process as you, same work ethic, and the same goals for the store.”
Splitting the tasks relatively evenly, Sheridan is the lead on any technology-related duties, such as running the social media and placing orders, while Sharon takes charge of the finances.
“We both have different responsibilities, and I am thankful for that because the stuff she does, she is way better at than me,” Sharon says.
And though they may have disagreements — that sometimes result in their best ideas, according to Sheridan — they’ll always be mother and daughter.
“My mom and I have always been very close,” Sheridan says. “And at the end of the day there is no one else I’d rather work with.”
