There’s something about baking that brings people together. The soft, sweet dough, the fresh aromas and the buttery concoctions that come out of your oven are just a few things bakers get to enjoy in the kitchen. Creating those memories is exactly what the Southlake Cake Club has been doing for the past 10 years.
Founded by Elisha Rurka, the Southlake Cake Club was established in April 2013 as a chapter of the Clandestine Cake Club, a national organization that had over 200 groups around the world. After the national organization shut down in 2018, Elisha kept the club going locally in Southlake.
“I’ve loved the opportunity to challenge myself each month and see my baking and decorating skills improve,” Elisha says. “All levels of bakers are welcome -- whether you have professional training and run a cake business or are a home baker who prefers doctoring up a boxed cake mix.”
Each month would have a theme for its members to follow, whether it was cocktail and mocktail cakes, holiday cakes or mystery cakes. With over 200 members and growing, Elisha says she hopes to continue cultivating a wonderful baking community in Southlake.
“What I have loved most about the cake club over the years is all the wonderful people I've met,” Elisha says. “The Southlake Cake Club has always been about coming together, meeting new people and baking something delicious — just remember to bring a box to take some extra cake home with you.”
