Southlake DPS is letting residents know they can call when they need “Help” — and what better way to do that than by covering the Beatles?
On Thursday morning, Southlake DPS released a video cover of the Beatles’ hit single “Help!” With new lyrics having a Southlake spin, the audio was recorded by Beatles cover band singer Trey Garitty, while Southlake DPS filmed at the new Carroll Senior High School performing arts center. Firefighter John Angeles played the lead, while officers Anthony Pate and Sgt. Jonathan Macheca were the guitarists and firefighter Billy Vogler was the drummer.
Public relations officer Brad Uptmore says he was looking for fun ideas that would resonate with the whole community when he came up with the concept.
“Last year has been tough for our creativity because everyone seems so polarized on so many topics,” Uptmore says. “There’s so much anger, arguing and grudges, and I kept trying to think of something that everyone loves. I was listening to Sirius XM on the way to work and heard ‘Help!’ by the Beatles. I thought, 'Everyone loves the Beatles, and everyone calls 911 for help.’ So I was like, let’s do it.”
The video can be viewed on Southlake DPS’ Facebook and Twitter pages.
