Christmas is a time for giving, and the Rose family is getting into the holiday spirit.
For the past few weeks, Sierra Rose and her family have been hosting their Hugs For The Homeless donation drive, where they collect personal items to give to the homeless at Union Gospel Mission Church in Fort Worth. In previous years, the family collected items and handed them out directly at the church. This year to accommodate social distancing, the Roses instead opted to make an Amazon wish list that people could purchase items from and they could assemble into clothing bags.
“Every day we’ve gotten five to six packages on our doorstep that are new, high-quality resources that we can give to this community,” Sierra says. “We know how big of a deal it is to some people to get gloves or a blanket this holiday season, so we just wanted to be there for people that are struggling right now, especially from COVID.”
Their gift bags will include Bibles, gloves, socks, hats, toothbrushes, toothpaste, blankets, snacks and candy canes. Sierra says they’ve already secured enough donations for 125 clothing bags and counting.
“Service is super, super important to us,” Sierra says. “It’s based on this idea of warmth — of restoring dignity to this population and reminding them that they’re loved and valued. It’s nice to know that they won’t be cold this holiday season.”
The Roses are accepting donations up until December 22. If you would like to contribute, visit Amazon.com.
