The “Yellowstone Effect” is showing no sign of slowing down, and because of it, Hollywood is officially heading to the 76092. In a move that has local film buffs and residents buzzing, Southlake Mayor Shawn McCaskill recently shared the news that a brand-new Taylor Sheridan production, Frisco King, is slated to film in and around Southlake and the DFW metroplex this year.
The upcoming series is a high-stakes spinoff of the Paramount+ hit Tulsa King, which stars Sylvester Stallone. This time around, the Sheridan’s universe welcomes another heavyweight to the lead role—Samuel L. Jackson. Joining Jackson in this gritty new chapter are recently announced cast members Asa Germann (Gen V), Kai Caster (Yellowstone), and Lilah Pate (Outer Banks).
City leaders recently met with Paramount TV officials to formerly welcome the production team to the city. During the meeting, the local leaders even jokingly suggested a title change to Southlake King.
Sheridan, a North Texas native who lives on a ranch in Weatherford, has increasingly turned the DFW area into a primary filming hub. Frisco King joins a growing list of local productions, including the oil-rig drama Landman (starring Billy Bob Thornton), the espionage thriller Lioness (with Zoe Saldaña and Nicole Kidman), and scenes for the Yellowstone prequel 1883.
Stallone and Jackson don’t just appear on camera, they also join Sheridan as executive producers of the series. While Frisco King is titled after our neighbors to the north, Southlake Town Square and other picturesque landscapes are expected to serve as key backdrops. With cameras set to roll soon, keep an eye out for film crews and some star sightings on the horizon.
