A new musical is debuting in both New York and online next month, and it’s from one of Southlake’s very own creative minds.
A Southlake native and Interlochen Center For The Arts alumna, Victoria Rae Sook is a two-time Drama Desk Award nominee who has been acting on film, TV and stage for more than five years. She’s also directed a handful of theatrical productions, including a few that she streamed in 2020. Now her newest show “Moms: The Musical” will livestream later in July, with proceeds benefiting the New York nonprofit Moms For Moms.
According to a media release, the show tells the story of two first-time mothers that form an unlikely friendship through their mutual struggles of motherhood. Written by Kelly Surette and Teddy Hall and with “Mamma Mia!” musical director David John Madore penning the score, Victoria hopes that the show empowers women and challenges unfair expectations that are placed on mothers.
“All mothers are perfect, exactly as they are, and deserve to be celebrated,” Victoria says in the release. “They deserve a musical where they are the leads, not the best friends, and they can see onstage that their best is absolutely enough. I am really excited to be giving them that.”
“Moms: The Musical” will stream at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 24. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased online at SuretteAndHall.com.
