Carroll ISD dominated the recent all-region band auditions with 53 of its students invited to perform for the all-region bands this weekend in Euless. Several high schools were represented at the Region 31 TMEA All-Region band auditions, including Coppell, L.D. Bell, Grapevine, Colleyville Heritage and several others. CISD band director Ken Johnson says the auditions were incredibly competitive, but Carroll held its own against other talented music programs.
"We are incredibly proud of all our students who auditioned and went through the TMEA All-Region process," Johnson says. "Students who make one of the all-region bands have performed at a very high level to earn a coveted position in one of the region bands."
According to MySouthlakeNews.com, the freshman band includes piccoloist Makena Kao, clarinetists Vivek Reddy and Annabel Dewey, bass clarinetist Azlaan Shafi, alto saxophonists Justin Wu and Brandon Yoshinaka, tenor saxophonists Chase Miller, French hornist Matthew Cory, trombonists Anbu Subramanian and Carson Crays, tuba player Sebastian Lanuza and percussionist Ethan Arnn. The concert band includes flutist Jessica Yang, clarinetists Ariana Carrasco and Zoe Bishop, bass clarinetist Marten Koning, French hornists Justin Sasek and Jack Kester, trumpeters Callum Andrews and Nicholas Parker, trombonists Kenney Spencer and Han-gyong Parker, euphonist Chris Estridge and tuba player Carter Doby. Wind Symphony and Ensemble members include flutist Brittany Luan, bass clarinetist Tori Thomas and percussionist Brady Black. Additionally, 11 students from the wind symphony and ensemble advanced to the area contest: piccoloist Grace Drake, oboist Andrew Kim, bassoonists Diego Pena and Kiera DiCesare, contra bassoonist Drew Keady, clarinetists Boyang Liu, Nick Walker and Emily Trinh, saxophonist Henry Thompson and French hornists Olivia Lamont and Caleb Schaunaman.
“Our 11 area candidates will compete against other students from neighboring areas this weekend at Coppell High School," Johnson explains. "Students who place at the very top of their sections will be named to one of the Texas All-State bands and travel to San Antonio in February for the TMEA Convention and All-State Concerts.”
Johnson says the all-region students will perform at their respective concerts on Saturday, January 18 at Trinity High School at 500 N. Industrial Blvd. The freshman band will start at 4 p.m. and run through the concert, symphonic and wind symphony bands until the wind ensemble concludes the performances at 8 p.m.
