Walt Disney heroes and villains will collide at the Carroll Senior High School auditorium on Wednesday evening for Carroll Choir’s annual pop-up show. Head choir director Paul Doucet says this year’s show, titled “Outsiders, Outcasts and Villains,” features Disney characters old and new, with many students meeting them in-person over their trip to Disney World last week.
Paul says Carroll Choir has been working on this original show since August. Over the summer, faculty settled on a theme and solidified music, costuming and technical needs. After that, students rehearsed their songs through the winter to be ready in time for the spring production.
“We only do it once a year,” Paul says. “This is a monster. This is a really big show. This scale is of major theatrical work.”
Paul says the spring pop-up show serves as an opportunity for students to experience a theatrical production different from the usual choir setting and getting to play characters they love and recognize.
“It gives the students an opportunity to sing music that isn’t the traditional Western canon,” Paul says. “It allows them to sing things that are more contemporary to them. They love the idea of singing and being on stage, and they love being able to portray different characters and dance, which is a new experience for some of them.”
“Outsiders, Outcasts and Villains” starts at 7 p.m. on Wednesday at 1501 W. Southlake Blvd. The pop-up show is free and open to the public.
