Last week at Clear Creek ISD’s Robotics Event Center just outside of Houston, the Carroll Dragon Robotics Team was on a mission to defend their position as state champions. Two Dragon teams were amongst the state’s top-performing 6A teams who made their way to the 2025 RECF-VEX UIL Championship. Dragon Team 7110-H was successful in recapturing their first place title.
"I was incredibly impressed by the performances of both of our teams at the 6A VEX-RECF UIL State tournament," said robotics instructor Leah Schwedler. "Having two teams capable of contending for the UIL championship speaks volumes about the dedication and talent of the exceptional students in our robotics program. This championship is particularly special, as it marks the first year points have been awarded toward the Lonestar Cup. We're excited to be a part of Carroll ISD's longstanding tradition of excellence."
Next up, the teams will compete at the Texas Region 5 Championship Lovejoy High School on March 1 for a chance to advance to the VEX Robotics World Championship, which hosts the top 2-5% of teams from around the world to design, build and program their own robots and test them through a series of technical challenges. If the robotics team advances to VEX this year, it would mark the 11th consecutive showing for the Dragons.
