A familiar face will be the next head football coach at Carroll.
Lee Munn has officially been named the next coach of the Dragons, a decision confirmed during the Feb. 2 Carroll ISD School Board meeting. The move ends weeks of speculation and signals a commitment to continuity for one of Texas’ most storied high school football programs.
Munn, who has served as Carroll’s defensive coordinator and associate coach for the past eight seasons, steps into the role following the departure of Riley Dodge, whose tenure continued the program’s championship-level expectations. Rather than looking outside the program, the district turned inward — selecting a coach deeply embedded in the culture, standards and daily grind of Dragon football.
That familiarity was a major factor in Munn’s popularity among players, parents and alumni. Long before Monday’s vote, his name had been circulating as the leading candidate, fueled by both on-campus support and public endorsements from high-profile football figures. Former Carroll quarterback and current NFL standout Quinn Ewers voiced his approval on social media, as did Dallas Cowboys legend Dez Bryant, whose son transferred to Carroll this year.
Their praise amplified what many around the program already believed: Munn was the right fit.
Munn’s résumé at Carroll includes more than just years on the staff. In January 2021, he served as interim head coach for the Dragons’ Class 6A Division I state semifinal against Duncanville when Dodge was sidelined due to COVID-19 protocols. Carroll won that game, 34–27, advancing to the state championship.
Before arriving in Southlake, Munn coached under Todd Dodge at both Marble Falls and Austin Westlake, giving him firsthand experience in championship programs and high-expectation environments. That background, paired with his institutional knowledge of Carroll, made him a steady choice at a moment of transition.
Monday’s decision represents both a new chapter and a continuation of tradition. Carroll graduates a significant amount of talent following the 2024–25 season, and Munn will be tasked with maintaining the program’s standard while guiding the next wave of Dragons.
