Southlake Carroll will not be bringing home the Class 6A Lone Star Cup for the 2024-25 school year.
Although the official results will not be reported until July, the final point totals have been tallied by the University Interscholastic League. Carroll finished the school year with 102 points, second-most in the entire state for schools classified as 6A.
Carroll won last year's Lone Star Cup with 111 points, it's ninth Cup victory in school history.
The only school to beat Carroll in 2025 was Austin Vandergrift, with 122 points. Vandergrift and Carroll were the only two Texas 6A schools to finish with more than 100 points; the third-place school, Lewisville Flower Mound, scored only 85 points. Austin Lake Travis finished in fourth place with 80 points.
Schools are awarded points throughout the school year for placing in different athletic, academic and music competitions. Finishing higher in a respective competition earns the school more points than schools that finished lower; first place in a competition, for example, earns more points than second place, etc.
Carroll received its points from team tennis (8 points), boys cross country (10), marching band (4), district academics (4), robotics (7), volleyball (8), football (14), spirit (1), boys wrestling (4), girls swim and dive (8), girls basketball (2), boys basketball (4), boys soccer (8), girls soccer (6), boys track and field (2), softball (2) and baseball (10).
While an impressive year for Carroll, Vandergrift simply dominated in athletics and music. The Austin-area school won the Class 6A Division 2 state football championship -- against Carroll, no less -- and the volleyball team advanced to the state semifinals. In winter sports, Vandergrift's girls basketball team reached the regional semifinals and the boys basketball team reached the second round.
Vandergrift then coasted to the Lone Star Cup title on the heels of its spring sports performances. The boys soccer team won the state championship, the girls soccer team reached the state semifinals, and the girls golf team were Class 6A state runners up.
