The fire is burning brighter than ever for the Carroll Pitmasters.
On April 25, the Southlake Carroll BBQ team, O.G. BBQ, officially secured the Texas High School BBQ State Championship, cementing their status as the best in the Lone Star State.
This victory follows a powerhouse season under the leadership of head coach Breece Higgins. The team originally punched their ticket to the state level after a dominant performance at the Fort Worth Rodeo competition earlier this year. Last weekend's championship victory was a true team effort, with O.G. BBQ delivering top-tier results across the board:
Preston Inouye: Team Captain (Brisket)
Caden Roberson: 2nd Place (Ribs)
Ryan Vu: Chicken
Darien Kawai: 2nd Place (Dessert)
Cruz Paredes: Beans
While these students are now local legends for their pit skills, some are already familiar with the national spotlight. Several team members were featured in the Magnolia Network’s docuseries, “BBQ High,” which premiered on August 18, 2024. The show, which earned an Emmy nomination, followed the Dragons’ journey and highlighted the passion and dedication required to compete at the highest level of high school barbecue.
