Southlake Carroll is putting 2020 in the rearview for its upcoming homecoming celebration. After COVID-19 shut down school and moved classes to an at-home setting, many Dragons were left wondering whether they would even have homecoming in the fall, let alone a football season.
“It’s no secret that 2020 has been a difficult year for everybody,” Carroll Student Council PR Officer Avery Schoenhals says at an October 20 school board meeting. “All of us at some point have kind of wanted to turn back time.”
After much planning, the Carroll Student Council has announced that homecoming is on as scheduled, with this year’s theme being “Turn Back Time.” Avery says that homecoming court nominations will open on Tuesday, November 3 with voting beginning on Monday, November 9. The following week, dress-up days will be planned for every week day celebrating another decade for Southlake Carroll from 1950 to 2000.
On Wednesday, November 18, Carroll will host a Dragon Drive-Thru from 5-6:30 p.m. at Dragon Stadium, where attendants will be guided through every decade of Carroll ISD. The student council will also host a car decorating contest and a food pantry to collect canned goods for local food banks.
Finally, on Friday, November 20, Southlake Carroll will host its homecoming game against the Eaton Eagles at Dragon Stadium. Avery says the homecoming king and queen will also be crowned at that same game.
“We didn’t expect to have any of this at all, so it's a huge win for us that we got to work on this for the last month or so on getting all of that planned,” Avery says. “We're so excited that we're actually able to have homecoming festivities this year.”
