The new school year is almost here, and the Southlake Carroll Target Team (SCTT) is about to return to a trophy case that's a lot more crowded. In June, the team not only won first place at the Scholastic Clay Target Program (SCTP) State Championship in San Antonio — they also went on to win the 2024 USAYESS National Jr. Clay Target Championships.
At the SCTP State Championships, the Target Team shot with an astounding 94.9% accuracy, hitting a record 1,424 clays out of the 1,500 that make up the total team score in skeet, trap and sporting clays. The team took home first place in Team High Overall (HOA), first place in High School HOA, first place in Skeet, first place in Trap and fourth place in Sporting Clays.
Thanks to this impressive performance, these sharpshooters also made history. Only the Top 5 athletes across all clay target disciplines from the state qualify to represent Texas at the SCTP National Championship, and SCTT team members earned a record four of these spots. Target Team members who were chosen to represent Texas are Dominic Marotta, Garrett Briggs, Ethan Thomason and Blake Tyler.
After their success at State, the team then went on to once again win first place at the USAYESS National Jr Clay Target Championships in San Antonio. The team outshot all of their opponents again with 94.4% accuracy, shooting 1,888 out of 2,000 clays.
