“Once upon a time, there was a railroad line …” begins Carroll Theatre’s production of Hadestown: Teen Edition, a new modern American classic based on the Tony Award-winning hit that has become a Broadway mainstay in recent years. Touching on themes of power, wealth and the resilience of the human spirit, this retelling of the tragic Greek myth of Orpheus and Eurydice also masterfully weaves in the story of Persephone and Hades to contrast with the star-crossed lovers.
With a 12-member ensemble, the show features eight main roles led by Senior Megha Kadiyala as Hermes. Standout performances by Brook Brown and Emily Morris lend support to the main characters and help to create the world of Hadestown. Unique to this cast is the number of underclassmen involved: over half the cast are freshmen and sophomores.
Featuring a student-designed set utilizing a working turntable stage with a nautical spin, Hadestown: Teen Edition brings the magic of Broadway straight to Southlake.
Hadestown: Teen Edition runs from Sept. 26 to 29. For showtimes and tickets, visit the Carroll Theatre website.
