Carroll has once again cemented its place among Texas high school athletic, academic, and fine arts royalty.
The Dragons captured the 2026 UIL Class 6A Lone Star Cup, marking the program's 10th overall Lone Star Cup and further extending one of the most impressive traditions of excellence in Texas high school athletics.
The Cup recognizes overall achievement, rewarding schools for success in state championship events throughout the school year. According to the University Interscholastic League, Carroll finished with a record-setting 132 points — the highest total ever recorded in Class 6A competition. Flower Mound finished second with 112 points.
The Dragons received 16 points from state-champion volleyball, 12 points from football, 12 points from girls soccer, 10 points from boys cross country, eight points each from boys soccer and girls golf, six points apiece from boys swimming & diving, boys basketball and boys wrestling, and five points from robotics excellence. Additional points came from team tennis (8), boys track & field (4), girls swimming & diving (4), academic decathlon (4), boys golf (4), one-act play (4), girls basketball (2), congressional debate (2), spirit (1) and several other UIL-sanctioned academic and extracurricular categories.
The foundation was laid in the fall when Carroll volleyball delivered a historic breakthrough, capturing the program's first-ever UIL state championship. The Dragons defeated Austin in a thrilling five-set Class 6A Division II title match to earn 16 Lone Star Cup points. The football team followed with another dominant season, winning District 4-6A and advancing to the UIL state semifinals before falling to eventual state champion DeSoto.
Cross country standout Caden Leonard continued his legendary career by winning his third consecutive individual state championship while helping the Dragons secure another boys team state title. Leonard later added to his resume during track and field season, setting a UIL state meet record in the 3,200-meter run with a time of 8:48.81.
Spring sports provided the final push. Carroll's girls soccer team advanced to the state semifinals after an undefeated district championship campaign, while the boys soccer team also made a deep postseason run. The girls golf team contributed additional points with a strong finish at the state tournament.
The championship validates what Dragon fans witnessed throughout the year: a school-wide commitment to excellence that extends far beyond a single sport.
Carroll's dominance was also recognized by the Texas High School Athletic Directors Association, which awarded the Dragons the inaugural Class 6A Texas Cup. Unlike the Lone Star Cup, which includes academic and extracurricular achievements, the Texas Cup honors overall athletic success alone.
For a program already synonymous with winning, the 2026 Lone Star Cup serves as another reminder that the standard in Southlake remains remarkably high.
