The Carroll Yearbook team was named a finalist by the Columbia Scholastic Press Association for its prestigious Crown Award this week.
Every year, the CSPA honors the top yearbook publications for excellence in design, photography, concept, coverage and writing, according to a media release. This year, 61 yearbooks were recognized, including Southlake Carroll’s 2021 yearbook “Anything But Ordinary.”
“It was an unusual year from beginning to end, and the staff knew they’d have to work incredibly hard to get the yearbook out,” yearbook advisor Natalie Brown says in the media release. “Despite many challenges, they never faltered and instead created something incredibly inclusive and memorable for their community.”
The 392-page yearbook features grades 9-12 and includes QR codes that linked KDGN video productions to the publication. The 2021 yearbook team includes editor-in-chief Lindsay Ryan and section editors Maya Tewari, Afton Fay, Darya Tadlaoui, Breanna Davenport, John Marvel, Peyton Brush and Lauren Pich.
All 61 finalists will be considered for the Gold Crown, while the rest will be awarded with Silver Crowns. Both award winners will be announced at the CSPA ceremonies in March 2022.
