A group of Dragons has come together to help their fellow students ahead of testing season.
Founded by Aaryana Sharma and Sahat Sopirala, Dragon Tutoring is a student-run tutorial service that provides elementary, intermediate and middle school students with free, one-on-one tutoring over Zoom. Started earlier this semester, Aaryana says Dragon Tutoring started as a way for high school students to earn community service hours.
“I was part of a similar program at my old high school and it was really successful,” Aaryana says. “I realized it was a really effective way to help the community as we were able to help both elementary and middle school students, as well as high school students.”
With 10-15 tutors and plans to expand to in-person tutorial sessions in the fall, Sahat hopes that Dragon Tutoring continues to grow so it can help more students ahead of testing season.
“Currently, we have a smaller, loyal student base, as well as a good size group of tutors because of the incentive of volunteer hours,” Sahat says. “Once we get a larger student base, we can coordinate with schools to host tutoring sessions after school in libraries and cafeterias.”
