In recognition of September’s Hunger Action Month, Southlake's Durham Intermediate School collected over 500 jars of peanut butter and raised an additional $1,000 through virtual donations to benefit the North Texas Food Bank (NTFB).
Former Durham student and NiHao Food Bank Initiative student ambassador Athena Wen introduced the NTFB's annual peanut butter drive to the school this year. The drive is especially impactful because peanut butter is essential to food banks thanks to its long shelf life and nutritional value, providing critical support for those in need. The North Texas Food Bank expressed deep appreciation for Durham’s contributions, noting how the school's efforts stood out among others.
"Durham’s participation in this year’s peanut butter drive has been outstanding, and their generosity will help spread hope to children and families facing hunger," says Johnny Jenkins, Manager of Strategic Initiatives at the North Texas Food Bank.
