Eric McDade has a reputation for lifting Dragons up on campus. Now he’s doing that through the airwaves with his new podcast: “Being DragonStrong.”
A couple of months ago, the head basketball coach did a Friday morning pep talk to in-service teachers during a video call on Zoom. After the district received an overwhelmingly positive reaction from Eric’s encouraging words, assistant communications director Justin Dearing got the idea to help Eric start his own podcast to deliver his positive message from anywhere.
“We got a lot of response saying ‘We’d love to see more of that,’” Justin says in the podcast’s trailer. “We decided we would find some time in our day, get together and let coach McDade share his words.”
The “Being DragonStrong” podcast will be released weekly through the Anchor podcasting platform. In his first show, Eric talked about his setup and how excited he is to work on the podcast.
“I’ve got this mic in front of me, and it looks like exactly what you’d see on TV with 'Mike & Mike In The Morning,'” Eric chuckles. “This podcast is unlike any other podcast.”
After his opening remarks, Eric got into his first topic titled “Remembering Your Why.” Eric says remembering why you get out of bed every day and work hard at what you do is important to get you through whatever challenges you may be facing.
“When we remind ourselves of the reason we’re doing what we’re doing, it carries us over the hump," Eric says. "Focus on your 'why.' Remember your 'why,' let it carry you through. There’s nothing that you can’t accomplish. It’s all about being Dragon Strong."
You can catch the newest episode of the “Being DragonStrong” podcast every Monday on iTunes and Spotify.
