The University Interscholastic League canceled the Lone Star Cup Award for the 2019-2020 school year, following the cancellation of spring sporting events due to COVID-19.
“All UIL sanctioned contests were suspended on March 13, 2020, and later cancelled, in an effort to support the health and safety of Texas students and communities during the COVID-19 pandemic,” UIL says in a press release. “As a result, many activities that earn points toward the UIL Lone Star Cup were not completed. These events included Boys Basketball, Robotics FIRST, Soccer, Academics, One-Act Play, Golf, Tennis, Track & Field, Softball and Baseball.”
At the time of cancellation, Southlake Carroll was in first place in the race to win this year’s Lone Star Cup with 62 points, aiming to win it two years in a row after capturing it last year. Had Southlake Carroll won this year, it would have also been the district’s eighth cup win.
