Two Southlake Fire Department crews were honored with awards from Baylor Grapevine Hospital in December for their timely and life-saving actions last year, per the City of Southlake.
Field Training Officer JP Adams and Firefighter/EMT Landon Beck were presented with the "STEMI of the Year Award," awarded for "incredible work and coordination" between EMS providers and hospital staff in July and September 2024. Firefighter/EMTs Spencer Johnson and Brady Tackett, and Lieutenant Ryan Sessums were also recognized, but were not present for the award.
On July 20, an emergency call reported a patient having a heart attack. Rapid pre-hospital care and early notification to the hospital by Adams, Beck, Johnson, Tackett and Sessums had the patient receiving cardiac treatment just 28 minutes after first contact. That patient was discharged home the same day.
The second award went to Firefighter/Paramedic Chase Villarreal, Firefighter/EMT Colby McSpedden, FTO Nic Miles and Lieutenant Frank Molinets for their timely response and actions during a cardiac arrest call in September.
That patient went into cardiac arrest at a public recreation facility, per reports, and was resuscitated in place until he regained a pulse. The patient was then transported to the hospital, where he stayed for two weeks before being discharged home.
