The Southlake Public Library currently has a unique collection on display in honor of Black History Month.
An exhibit of African American subjects on replica United States postage stamps is on display, and includes a stamp of Harriet Tubman -- the first African American woman to appear on a U.S. stamp -- and Booker T. Washington.
"By showcasing the Blake Heritage stamps, the exhibit not only honors the individuals depicted but also aligns with [the Association for the Study of African American Life and History, or ASALH]'s theme by recognizing the significant contributions of African Americans in various fields of labor throughout history," read a library release.
Washington was the first African American to appear on a U.S. stamp -- a ten-cent stamp issued in 1940. In 1978, the Postal Service initiated the Black Heritage stamp series to recognize the achievements of individual African Americans.
The steps will be on display through Friday, Feb. 28, per library staff. More information on the library's Black History Month exhibit can be found here.
