With a new football season on the horizon, Southlake Carroll fans are eager to fill the stands and support the Dragons they know and love. But which games are home and away games, and who can you expect to see on the field? Here are five things you should know before heading into the Dragons’ 2021 football season.
1. The 2021 Schedule
With the opener set for August 26 at AT&T Stadium, Dragon fans are eager to see how far the Dragons go this season. With six away games and just four home games, the Dragons will be on the road a lot this fall and won’t be playing at Dragon Stadium until Week 4 versus Arlington Martin on September 17. But regardless which field they play on, the Dragons will give it their all. Tickets can be purchased online ahead of time at the Carroll Athletic Department’s website.
2. State Rankings
After coming off of a state title appearance last year, the Dragons are rightfully viewed as serious competition for 2021. In high school preseason rankings, Southlake Carroll is consistently ranked in the top 10 of most sports publications, including coming in at No. 7 in MaxPreps’ list, No. 3 in Dave Campbell’s Texas Football’s rankings and No. 2 in Texas HS Football’s list. Even after the early departure of Quinn Ewers, several powerhouse players remain in RJ Maryland, Landon Samson and Owen Allen, in addition to an experienced defense.
3. The New Dragon QB
Before the new semester even started, the Dragons’ former quarterback Quinn Ewers made national news by announcing he was forgoing his senior year to head to Ohio State early. But the Dragons have yet another rising star in Kaden Anderson. The 6-foot-4,195-pound junior helped fill in for Ewers when he was out for six games last season, completing 14 passes for 169 passing yards and three touchdowns. With QBHitList.com highlighting his arm strength and throwing technique in particular, it’ll be exciting to see what the new quarterback is made of.
4. Livestreaming Is Back
One thing to carry over from last year’s season is the livestreaming of games. According to the Dragon Sports Network, fans will be able to tune in to the Carroll Athletic Booster Club’s multi-camera livestream of the Dragons’ Thursday and away games. Fans can watch on either the CABC’s website or on the Southlake Carroll Dragons app. Regardless of how you choose to tune in, you’ll be happy that you can watch your Dragons compete no matter where you are.
