CMS 7th grade basketball teams volunteer with Special Olympics Texas
Last Saturday, Dragonbrathletes from Carroll Middle School (CMS) hit the basketball court not tobrcompete, but to assist. The CMS 7th grade basketball teams boarded abrbus for the University of Texas at Arlington to volunteer for a Special Olympics Texas (SOTX) basketball tournament.
Basketball is SOTX'sbrthird most popular sport, with more than 9,000 SOTX athletes in the state. Atbrlast weekend's event, more than 150 SOTX athletes competed. Under the guidance of CMS coaches Anthony Van Buskirk and Zach Sellers, the CMS Dragonsbrhelped cheer, officiate and work the scorer's table.
“This was a greatbropportunity for our basketball teams to serve,” says Coach Sellers, whobrorganized the event. “All the athletes had a blast. It was an enrichingbrexperience for all.”
