Snapped Dragons / S. Johnson
Carroll wide receiver Brock Boyd has officially cemented his place in Dragon football history.
With 90 receiving yards in Friday night’s rivalry matchup against Euless Trinity, Boyd became the program’s all-time leader in career receiving yards with 3,034, surpassing former Dragon great McKay Jacobson’s 3,019.
Boyd entered Friday’s game needing 75 yards to tie Jacobson, and 76 to claim the record outright. He accomplished both before the night was over. So far in 2025, the senior has 341 receiving yards and five touchdowns in helping Carroll to a 4-0 start.
Boyd’s achievement is the result of years of consistent production and playmaking ability in one of the state’s most competitive football environments. Known for his precise route running, reliable hands, and ability to stretch the field, he has been a go-to option for the Dragons’ offense throughout his varsity career.
Jacobson, who graduated in 2006, is one of the most decorated athletes in Carroll history. Jacobson was a three-sport standout who also qualified for the UIL state track meet in the 200 meters. Elevated to varsity as a freshman during Carroll’s 2002 playoff run, he became a three-year starter from 2003–2005, catching passes from future college and NFL quarterbacks Chase Daniel and Greg McElroy. By the end of his senior year, Jacobson had piled up 204 receptions and 3,019 yards, leading the Dragons to three Class 5A state championships and earning recognition as the state’s 5A Wide Receiver of the Year.
After Carroll, Jacobson served a two-year mission in Japan before becoming a four-year starter at BYU, later signing with the Philadelphia Eagles as a free agent in 2011. He went on to earn his MBA from SMU and now works in finance while raising his son, Benjamin.
Boyd's career has been equally spectacular. As a junior, he caught 111 passes for 1,875 yards and 19 touchdowns and added a rushing score to total 20 touchdowns. He also committed to Ohio State, which he has called his "dream school."
By surpassing Jacobson, Boyd not only etched his name atop Carroll’s all-time list but also joined a lineage of excellence that stretches from state championships in the mid-2000s to the present day. His record-breaking performance against Trinity adds yet another chapter to the rich tradition of Dragon football greatness.
