Abby Mills with the United States's Women's National U-20 Team
Stop us if you've heard this one before: Carroll soccer was recently represented at a United States Women's National Team event.
This time, it was former Lady Dragons Abby Mills and Zoe Matthews -- currently of Notre Dame and the Houston Dash in the National Women's Soccer League, respectively -- who were invited to the Under-19 and Under-18 joint Women's National Team camp, held June 24-July 1 in Fayetteville, Georgia.
Mills was one of seven defenders on the U-19 roster, and the second defender from the Metroplex; Trinity Armstrong from Dallas of the San Diego Wave (NWSL) was also on the squad. Mills was also one of three Notre Dame athletes on the U-19 team. Matthews was one of eight defenders on the U-18 roster, and one of only three professional players on the squad.
Matthews holds the distinction of the being the youngest player ever signed by the Dash when she was 17. She made her NWSL debut in 2024 and recently signed a two-year contract that keeps her with Houston through 2026.
During the camp, players from both age groups were divided into two teams, featuring players from both age groups. The camp's purpose, per U.S. Soccer, is to create more opportunities for young players to advance through the USWNT system.
It's been a busy summer for Carroll soccer alums. Mills and fellow Lady Dragon alum Kennedy Fuller recently completed their 2025 CONCACAF tour of duty with the USWNT Under-20 team. That squad fell to Canada in the CONCACAF semifinals, 1-0, on June 6.
There's a strong chance that both Mills and Fuller play on the U-20 USWNT World Cup team in 2026 in Poland. Those rosters will be released soon by U.S. Soccer.
