The Carroll Lady Dragons golf team added another chapter to their storied history this week, capturing the silver medal at the UIL 6A State Championship at TPC San Antonio.
Facing one of the most demanding courses in the state, the Lady Dragons finished as the State Runner-Up with a two-day total of 628 (+15).
After an opening-round 325 left them with work to do, Carroll responded with a spectacular second-day performance. Their Day 2 score of 303 was among the best rounds in the entire field, allowing them to surge up the leaderboard and secure their place on the podium.
The charge was led by Gia Ahlowalia, whose performance on the final day was nothing short of elite. After carding an 80 in the first round, Ahlowalia caught fire during the final eighteen holes, shooting a blistering 68 to finish the tournament with a total of 148. Her turnaround served as the catalyst for a complete team effort that saw every Dragon golfer contribute to the silver-medal finish.
Olivia Neal followed an opening-round 80 with a 78 to finish at 158. Aubrie Nolen carded back-to-back rounds of 82 for a 164 total, while Tyler Burtnett mirrored that production by turning in an 83 and an 81 to also finish at 164. Completing the effort was Stephanie De Marco, whose Day 2 surge was vital to the team’s success. After an opening 89, De Marco shaved thirteen strokes off her score to fire a final-round 76, finishing with a 165.
It was a season-defining performance that highlighted the toughness and talent of the Carroll girls golf program.
