The Carroll ISD Academic Team dominated at the UIL district meet, winning the championship with 463 points overall.
With point standings including academics, cross-exam debate, one-act play and speech and debate, the Calculator Applications, Computer Science, Current Issues, Literary Criticism, Science and Social Studies team qualified for regionals, which is set for April 22-23 at the University of Texas at Arlington. Current Issues had the highest score in the state, while Literary Criticism and Social Studies had the second-highest scores. Individually, more than 20 students qualified for regionals, with Natalie Barton qualifying for state in costume design.
“I am very proud of how our students and coaches performed last weekend,” John Irish, Carroll’s UIL academic coordinator, says. “This is an activity that definitely goes unnoticed in a lot of ways. Our kids and coaches work very hard and they deserve a lot of attention for what all they do.”
