Carroll junior Tyler Burtnett was one of three girl golfers to shoot a 147 at the UIL Class 6A Region 1 tournament, booking her ticket for the state championships in the process.
Burtnett shot a 73 on Day 1 and a 74 on Day 2. She fell one stroke short of tying for third place." She was good in all phases of her game," said Matt Glenn, associate head golf coach. "Tyler's game has really matured this year, and at regionals, she was able to go out and not really have a bad round. Just a good, solid overall performance."
On the team side, Carroll's A Team shot a combined 621, which was good for fourth place overall but one slot out of qualifying for state. Carroll's B Team shot a combined 640, good for fifth place overall. The girls were hoping to return to state as a team, like in 2023 and 2024.
The girls' state championships are April 28-29 at White Wing Golf Club in Georgetown.
Boys fall just short of qualifying for state tournament
The Dragons boys golf team finished in eighth place at the Class 6A Region 1 tournament, shooting a combined 617.
The final slot for state went to Flower Mound Marcus, which shot a combined 594.
Carroll dominated at the 4-6A District meet, coming in first and securing a slot at regionals. Kye Davis shot a 150 at district, earning second place individually.
