The Carroll wrestling program is off to an impressive start this season, posting strong results across multiple early-season matches and high-level tournaments.
The Dragons opened December with a statement victory, defeating top-ranked Melissa 36-33 in a tightly contested dual. The win over one of the state’s premier programs set the tone for the month and underscored Carroll’s depth and ability to compete with elite competition across weight classes.
Carroll continued to build momentum at the Texas Women’s Classic, where the girls team gained valuable experience against a strong field. Brielle Trang finished just one match shy of placing, while Cora Hayes advanced to the finals, highlighting Carroll’s continued growth on the women’s side of the sport.
On the boys side, the Dragons delivered a standout performance at the Mid America Nationals, one of the premier early-season tournaments in the region. The event features top programs from Oklahoma, Texas, Kansas and Utah, creating a deep and challenging field. Carroll finished fifth overall as a team with 392.5 points, while Oklahoma powerhouse Tuttle claimed the team championship.
Individually, Carroll had six wrestlers place at the tournament, led by Dylan Ota, who was crowned champion in the 113-pound weight class. Luke Burgar earned a runner-up finish at 157 pounds, while Keagan Sieracki placed third at 150 pounds and Tyson Gibson took third at 144 pounds.
Additional strong finishes came from Ryan Haskell, who placed fifth at 132 pounds, and Braden Trang, who finished sixth in the same weight class, rounding out a balanced and successful showing for the Dragons.
