Carroll’s wrestling program delivered another strong postseason showing Feb. 6-7 at the UIL Class 6A Region I meet in Coppell, finishing as boys team runner-up with 191.5 points and sending nine wrestlers to the state tournament.
Junior Dylan Ota led the way at 113 pounds, capturing the regional title and earning Boys Outstanding Wrestler honors. Ota dominated all four of his matches, including a 14-1 major decision over El Paso Eastwood’s Ayden Galarza in the championship bout.
Other boys regional champions included Keagan Sieracki (150) and Luke Burgar (157), both posting victories in every match to claim their titles. Sieracki pinned Aiden Collazo of Keller in the first round and won the finals 5-2 over Arlington Martin’s Landon Collins. Burgar topped Lewisville Hebron’s Alexander Barros 2-0 in his championship match.
Tyson Gibson (144) and Chase Nickel (106) finished as regional runners-up. Gibson recorded three pins before falling by medical forfeit in the finals, while Nickel earned falls over Emmanuel Tello and a 13-0 major decision over Kaleb Serda before losing to Hector Ortiz of El Paso Eastwood in a 19-3 tech fall.
Ryan Haskell (132) and Braden Trang (138) both finished fourth, battling through tough brackets to secure state qualification. Haskell’s 4th-place run included multiple falls and a final no contest win over Alex Martinez of Euless Trinity. Trang finished his tournament with a decisive 10-7 victory over Coppell’s Sebastian Ramos in the fourth-place match.
Finally, Corban Chen qualified for state after defeating Arlington Martin's Bruce Axt in the 165-pound championship match.
On the girls side, Cora Hayes dominated the 125-pound bracket, winning all four of her matches by fall or major decision, including a 2:47 pin over Madelyn Capetillo in the championship match.
Carroll’s coaching staff was also recognized for their efforts. Cameron Haddock earned Boys Region 1 Assistant Coach of the Year honors, highlighting the program’s commitment to excellence both on and off the mat.
With nine wrestlers advancing to the UIL 6A State Championships later this month, the Dragons will look to carry their regional momentum into Austin and continue Carroll’s tradition of postseason wrestling success.
