The Carroll Cross Country teams delivered a strong early-season statement on September 5 at the invite-only Southlake Elite 5K Invitational at Bob Jones Park.
The No. 2 nationally-ranked boys' team secured a commanding victory with 36 points and a 37-second top-five spread. Junior Kai Gutierrez claimed the individual title in 14:47.2. Seniors Claudio Auns (6th, 15:12.0), Evan O’Donnell (7th, 15:16.2), Jaxon Glenn (9th, 15:17.8), and Adhavan Palanivelrajan (13th, 15:24.0) rounded out the team’s scoring pack, with Grant Norgart taking 14th in 15:27.7.
The Lady Dragons earned 4th place (111 points) in a loaded multi-state field despite missing star senior Abigail Perez. Senior Grace McIlvain led the squad, placing 11th in 18:30.5. Carroll’s scoring pack — including Kameron Dukes (22nd, 19:02.5), Nora Farden (25th, 19:08.8), Landry Lambert (28th, 19:13.2), and Quinn Salstrand (29th, 19:14.5) — posted a tight 19:02 team average.
“Our boys showed the strength of their experience, while our girls competed with tremendous toughness,” said Head Coach Justin Leonard. “Both teams have the potential to accomplish something special this season.”
Carroll returns to action September 12 at the Braswell Invitational in Denton, followed by the Woodbridge Invitational in Irvine, California, on September 19.
