It was quite a weekend for two Dragon athletes at the Class 6A state track and field meet.
Caden Leonard won gold in the 1,600 and 3,200 meter races, completing the distance-running Triple Crown -- he also won gold in cross country in the fall.
Impressively, Leonard ran the 3,200 in 8:57.98. The top three runners all finished the race in under nine minutes. He ran the 1,600 in 4:10.18.
The gold hardware caps a tremendous year for the junior Leonard, who was also named Gatorade Texas High School Cross Country Athlete of the Year for the second year in a row. He is committed to the University of North Carolina.
On the field side, senior Bo Fleming placed fourth in shot put with a throw of 60 feet, seven inches.
Fleming's senior season included throws that broke his own school records. He also dominated at regionals, recording a 62-foot shot put throw that was nearly four feet further than the second-place thrower.
As a team, Carroll placed fourth overall at state. They tied with El Paso Franklin and DeSoto with 24 points.
