Oklahoma commit and Carroll senior Robert Barnes was named the 6A Built Ford Tough Player of the Week for Week 2 in the Dragons' 37-14 win over Arlington Martin. The recently converted wide receiver played both sides of the ball in the game and caught six passes for 153 yards. He also registered five tackles and forced a fumble on the opposite side of the ball.
"Scary thought for Southlake Carroll opponents: All-State safety Robert Barnes closing in for another bone-jarring tackle," the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week website says. "Scarier thought: Seeing the 6-3, 195-pound Barnes line up at wide receiver. Either way, it wasn't a pretty sight for Arlington Martin last Friday night."
Head coach Hal Wasson told the site that Barnes' talent warrants his play on both sides of the ball. It's anticipated that the Dragons will utilize Barnes on both sides of the ball for the rest of the season.
"Robert comes from great bloodlines," the site continues. "His dad, Reggie Barnes played for the Dallas Cowboys in the 1990s, and was a four-year letterman and defensive captain at Oklahoma. Like father like son, Robert will be heading to Norman in the fall."
“Just by being out there, he raises our team's level of athleticism," Wasson is quoted on the site.
Barnes is a team captain this year. For more information on the Built Ford Tough Player of the Week nominations, click here.
