The Southlake Carroll boys cross-country team won their fourth straight regional championship on Monday, Oct. 25, according to a media release.
Taking place in Lubbock, the Region 1-6A Championship not only saw the boys team take the top spot but also the girls team winning second place. With these performances, both the boys and girls cross-country teams are headed to state. This is the 25th consecutive year the boys have qualified for state and the 12th consecutive year the girls have qualified for state, according to a media release.
“I’m really proud of our young men and women,” head coach Justin Leonard says via release. “The competition was steep out here today, and we’ll see some of these teams again at the state meet. The boys are excited to have the opportunity to defend their state championship, and the girls want to improve on their second-place finish from a year ago.”
On the boys side of things, junior David Fisher finished sixth overall with a time of 15:55, followed by junior Robert Freeman in ninth place with a time of 16:03. Senior Kaylie Cox continued her cross-country dominance, finishing ninth overall with a time of 18:45, followed by junior Ava Bushaw who finished 10th with a time of 18:58.
Next for the Southlake Carroll cross-country teams is the state championship, which will take place on Nov. 6 in Round Rock. The boys have previously won state in both 2019 and 2020.
