Southlake Invite
Carroll Cross Country swept the Southlake Invitational, held at Bob Jones Park on Saturday, October 17. Five Carroll boys and six girls finished in the top 10 of their respective varsity races, and the JV teams tallied perfect scores with runners finishing first through fifth in each race.
“Our young men and women had outstanding races today,” head coach Justin Leonard says via press release. “The gap between our first and fifth varsity boys was fewer than 30 seconds, and just under 50 seconds for the girls. That’s the type of consistency we’re going to need if we want to defend our state titles.”
The varsity boys secured a 40-point victory over Lewisville Marcus, with senior Antonio Florcruz leading the charge and finishing fourth overall. He was followed by senior Bennett Woolsey, who finished sixth; sophomore Logan Cantu, who finished seventh; senior Brian McCarthy, who finished ninth; and senior Bryan Fernando, who finished 10th.
The girls, who finished with a 52-point win over Lewisville Hebron, were led by fourth place finisher junior Kaylie Cox. She was followed by senior Abigail McIlvain, who finished fifth; senior Laurel Hook, who finished sixth; senior Grace Williamson, who finished seventh; and freshman Lily Garland, who finished eighth.
Ten JV boys crossed the finish line in the first 10 spots. The group was led by freshman Jude Alvarez and followed by senior Jayden Chambless, sophomore Dylan Fisher, freshman Brady Golomb and senior Matthew Hetrick. The JV girls had nine of the top 10 finishers, including all the top eight. Freshman Julia Gassett led the pack and was followed by junior Karley Beall, junior Kristin Mader, junior Lauren Lund and freshman Tatum Janning.
Carroll Cross Country will complete next on Thursday, October 29 at the District 4-6A meet at North Lakes Park in Denton.
