Southlake Carroll fans may have two big reasons to keep a close eye on the Jacksonville Jaguars roster as two familiar Dragons cross paths once again in Florida.
The Jaguars recently finalized a trade to acquire the Dragon’s former standout quarterback Quinn Ewers from the Miami Dolphins in exchange for a 2028 sixth-round draft choice. Ewers, who was drafted out of Texas in 2025 in the seventh-round, is an upgrade for the Jacksonville quarterbacks room as he is expected to be the backup option behind starter Trevor Lawrence.
Adding to local interest, former Dragon wide receiver Brady Boyd was among the final roster cuts for Jacksonville. However, Boyd maintains an exceptionally strong connection to secure a spot on the Jaguars' practice squad, where his deep-rooted chemistry with Ewers could potentially pay dividends.
Dragon faithful will vividly remember the explosive duo displayed during their high school tenure at Southlake Carroll. During their remarkable 2020 playoff run, Ewers and Boyd put on legendary performances under Friday night lights. In a single historic regional final 59-35 victory over Euless Trinity, the pair connected 17 times for 261 yards and four touchdows. That magical season saw Ewers light up defenses for over 4,000 yards while repeatedly feeding Boyd, who racked up well over 1,000 receiving yards as his primary target, propelling the Dragons all the way to the 6A Division I state championship game.
The Jaguars' upcoming schedule also offers a chance for Ewers and Boyd to reunite with some notable Dragon alumni featured in our “Dragon Pride Era 20 for 20” list who are currently in the NFL. In Week 2, the Jaguars head to Denver to face Lil'Jordan Humphrey, while Weeks 6 and 15 will feature matchups against Evan Brown and the Houston Texans. The schedule also includes a homecoming of sorts, as the team will visit Jerryland to take on the Dallas Cowboys.
