After an impressive showing by both the defense and the offense, Southlake Carroll advanced to the third round of the playoffs after defeating Odessa-Permian 38-7 on Friday. The offense racked up the scores throughout the night while the defense held the Panthers to only one touchdown to pave the way for a Christmas Eve game against Arlington Martin at Globe Life Park.
Quarterback Hunter Holden led the offense well, throwing for 258 yards, four touchdowns and only one interception. Holden also completed 9 of his 13 passes for a 69% pass completion rate. With junior quarterback Quinn Ewers still out, Holden has filled the position impressively and is currently the team leader in both passing yards and touchdowns.
Sophomore running back Owen Allen rushed for 178 yards and a touchdown while senior wide receiver Brady Boyd caught for 144 yards and three touchdowns. In total, Southlake Carroll recorded 534 yards of offense on the night.
The defense also had a successful night, holding Odessa-Permian to only one touchdown and 326 yards of offense. Linebacker Baker Barrett, our Dragon Pride Player of the Week, sponsored by Thomas & Sharon Michael | DFW Elite Realty, continues to rack up the tackles. The junior recorded 13 on the night.
Defensive lineman Cade Parks had a standout night as well. The sophomore recorded two sacks and four tackles on the night. And Benecio Porras continues to shine on defense. The junior linebacker recorded nine tackles on the night.
Heading into the third round of the playoffs, the Dragons are gearing up for a Christmas Eve game. Set for December 24 at 7:30 p.m., Southlake Carroll will be facing off against Arlington Martin at Globe Life Park.
Arlington Martin earned their spot in the third round of the playoffs by defeating Lewisville 68-0 and is currently ranked No. 46 nationally, according to MaxPreps.com. As of now, Southlake Carroll is ranked No. 36 nationally, according to MaxPreps.com.
