After defeating Denton Guyer 46-34 Riley Dodge's Dragons (5-0) have hit the national stage as the No. 23 ranked team in the country, according to USA Today.
Southlake Carroll, nationally ranked No. 11, fell to Desoto, nationally ranked No. 38, during its first scrimmage of the season on September 24, with a final score of 39-63. The Dragons got off to an early start thanks to the offensive power of junior quarterback Quinn Ewers. Ewers was able to show off his duality, completing an impressive 40-yard in the first quarter as well as several runs. But the Dragon’s total 454 yards were not enough compared to Desoto’s 478.
While Desoto’s passing yards surpassed Dragons, 369 to 340, the Dragons rushed more yards than the Eagles, 114 to 109. This is the first time since 2016 that the Eagles came out on top, clinching the win after a hard-fought 48-30 match. The Dragons dominated the next three years (2017-2019) with 33-15, 41-20 and 37-15 wins respectively.
The Dragons don’t have long to shake off the scrimmage with their first regular game of the season on October 2. The Dragons will have a home field advantage as they take on Rockwall Heath, a team with a national rank of 563 they haven’t played for the past few seasons.
