Friday nights rain couldn't be stopped. Neither could the Dragons during the Saturday evening rescheduling. Thanks to a punishing running game and stellar defense Southlake scored 28 unanswered second half points and went on to defeat Colleyville Heritage 49-14 on Saturday night.
The ground game proved impressive with Dragon Pride Player of the Week Lil'Jordan Humphrey and Shemar Coleman leading the way, combining for 5 touchdowns (one was a receiving touchdown by Coleman). Humphrey ran for 200 yards and caught three passes for 39. Coleman rushed for 132 yards and caught five passes for 40 yards. He added a 53-yard kickoff return to start the second half tear.
Other scorers for the offense were Kam Duhon for a 43-yard touchdown (he caught another pass for 7 yards) and Zach Farrar (2 receptions, 47 yards). Quarterback Mason Holmes went 14 of 21 for 186 yards and three scores.
The defense had a nice outing with many players contributing. Leading the way were Reed Thompson and Will Quillen, who each had 7 tackles. Thompson added one for a loss, while Quillen picked off a pass. Grant McFarlin registered 6 tackles, one for a loss, and the team's second interception on the night. Obi Eboh made three tackles, knocked down 6 passes and recovered a fumble, which was forced by Robert Barnes (he added 6 tackles).
The Dragons are now 6-2 and 3-1 in the district. They hit the road to face Haltom on Friday night at 7:30 p.m.
