Carroll Football has welcomed a new quarterback to the team this fall. But while Kaden Anderson will be making big plays and passes on the field, his mother Susan will be supporting his team from the sidelines as the Carroll Athletic Booster Club’s newly-elected president. With over seven years of community service and volunteer experience under her belt, Susan is excited to support all of the Dragons playing alongside her son this season.
WE HAVE LIVED IN SOUTHLAKE... for eight years now. We’re a big football family, and we moved here from Coppell for the excellent school district. I have three kiddos, two of whom have already graduated from Carroll, and their experience was incredible from athletics to academics. My youngest, Kaden, is a junior in high school and is really excited to play as quarterback this upcoming season.
THE SENSE OF COMMUNITY… was a big selling point for moving my family out here. It had a small-town feel to it that made it feel unified and together. We’re all Dragons from start to finish, from kindergarten through high school. That’s what ultimately made the decision for us.
I WAS ALWAYS HEAVILY INVOLVED... with my kiddos, from being the room mom in kindergarten to the team mom for their athletics. The booster club pretty much ran everything at the old school district I was in, so when I got to Southlake, that was the first organization I immediately sought out. I knew I wanted to get involved and I knew that was the best way to give back to the most athletes while helping out my own kids at the same time. That was the very first thing I looked for when our family moved to Southlake.
WHEN I JOINED THE CARROLL ATHLETIC BOOSTER CLUB… I immediately knew we needed to make this a more prominent figure within the community. We started going around to all of the parent meetings, supporting all of the sports from a personnel standpoint and putting our name out there. We set up at tailgates, attended games and let people know we were there for them and their kids. That kind of started our initial growth, and we expanded our outreach from there.
ONE OF MY BIGGEST PUSHES... was expanding opportunities at the middle school level. Booster club covers seventh through 12th grade, but whenever I went over to middle school, I realized they were kind of getting hand-me-downs from the older kids. I pushed really hard to get them new athletic uniforms as well as some new track equipment. Now we have support at the seventh and eighth grade level.
I HAVE SERVED THREE DIFFERENT LEADERSHIP ROLES... during my seven years with CABC. I was vice president of membership for two years, then I was vice president of sponsorship for two years before becoming treasurer these last two years.
AS VICE PRESIDENT OF MEMBERSHIP… my job was to get people to join. One of the biggest things we did during my term was bring in the support of our coaches. That in turn helped grow our membership at the parent level, and we more than doubled our membership both years.
FOR VICE PRESIDENT OF SPONSORSHIP… my role was to go out in the community and get businesses to sponsor us. That focus increased when we launched our app three years ago, and that opened up even more opportunities for us to give even more exposure to businesses through our webpage. That really helped increase support for our organization.
HAVING WORKED IN SO MANY ROLES… I feel like I have a strong background and have learned all the inner workings of CABC. As president, I want to continue the continuity and partnership between CABC, the athletic department and the district.
AS PRESIDENT, I AM... just excited to be around people again. I’m looking forward to supporting all of our coaches, and I’m just so happy I’ll be going to a game in person again. Carroll loves supporting our kids, and I can’t wait to do just that this season.
