This summer, kids can learn how to make the beat drop. That is, if they snagbra spot at the first-ever DJ Camp at The Marq. Dan Quinn of Southlake’s Dan Quinn Band is offering a four-day camp that runs from Julybr12-15 with two time options: 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. Space is open for 12brkids in each time slot.
Quinn, a Southlakebrresident who works full-time as a musician and DJ, has seen kids' enthusiasmbrfor getting behind the booth. That's why he's offering a camp this summer. “Itbrseems that DJs are the new rockstars of today's generation,” he says. “With sobrmany kids eager to learn, I saw a great opportunity to teach them.”
Quinn got some equipment, brbooked a space at The Marq and is ready to teach kids the ins and outs of beingbra DJ. Participants will learn to mix, match, crossfade, cue, hot cue, loop, EQ,brfilter, stutter and throw a great dance party overall.
“I'm so excited for kidsbrto have that a-ha moment the first time they mix two songs together orbrseamlessly transition from one song to the next. When kids realize they have abrnew skill, they typically get excited about it and want to do it even more,”brsays Quinn. “I'm hoping that these kids all leave camp begging Mom and Dad forbrtheir own DJ controller at home. Music is such a great thing for kids to getbrinto for so many reasons, and it ultimately just brings people together.”
The camp includes use ofbrlaptop computers and Pioneer DJ controllers for every two kids, allowing thembrto work as partners on each set of gear and learn together throughout the week.brOn the last day of camp, each student will step into the booth and put on abrshowcase set for their family and friends. And those headphones they've beenbrusing all week? They're for the DJs to keep.
The DJ camp is $225 andbropen to kids ages 8 and older. Click here to register.
