The accolades just keep coming for Southlake Carroll’s talented quarterback. On Wednesday, junior Quinn Ewers was named to the National Quarterback Club’s 2020 High School QB of the Year Watch List, according to a press release.
Including Ewers, 11 players were named to the watchlist. Ewers is the only junior to be included. The rest of the quarterbacks are seniors.
“Performances during the 2020 high school football season prove that the high school sector is extremely rich with talent, drive and commitment,” Don Kile, president of the National Quarterback Club, says via press release. “There were fewer games on schedules, including the effective elimination of national travel schedules due to the COVID mitigation measures imposed by the various states and school districts but that didn’t dampen the competition.”
Other Texas quarterbacks on the watch list include Denton Guyer’s Eli Stowers, Mesquite High School’s Ty Thompson and Ceder Hill High School’s Kaidon Salter.
The final ballots to determine the 2020 High School QB of the Year will be cast by national electors on January 18, 2021, according to a press release.
“This is the time of year when we all begin to think about high school playoff brackets and state championships,” Kile says via press release. “As disruptive as the pandemic has been to high school campus activities, I believe this year has provided some of the greatest demonstrations of sportsmanship and competition in a very long time. We are very proud of all the state governing bodies for tending to the protection and safety of these young people while allowing competition to continue, where appropriate. Coaches, players, parents, school administrators and game officials all accepted the challenge to take a step into something new on Friday nights. For those who played, it has been a good football season. We look forward to ending the year with a fantastic celebration.”
