The Southlake Carroll Dragons are set to begin the regular season on Friday night in a game against Rockwall-Heath High School at Dragon Stadium. Whether you decide to watch from home or don your Dragon gear to cheer from the stands, here’s what you need to know before kickoff.
Get Your Tickets Now
If you haven’t, now is the time to get tickets as there won’t be any on sale at the stadium and they’ll be first-come, first-serve. Limited to ensure a 50% capacity at Dragon Stadium, all tickets will be sold online. Season pass holders were able to begin purchasing tickets last Sunday, and general admission tickets opened on Tuesday. Sales for tickets will end on Friday at 12 p.m. or when they sell out. Children under 5 will not need a ticket while K-12 students will be required to purchase tickets.
Masks Required At Dragon Stadium
If you’re headed to the stadium to watch Friday’s game in person, make sure you’ve got a mask with you — they are required as you enter, exit or move around the stadium. Social distancing will also be required at Dragon Stadium, with spectators not allowed to sit on any seat marked with tape to ensure distance between fans. Dragon Stadium will only be at 50% of its maximum capacity to allow for social distancing and general admission.
Livestream the Game From Your Couch
For the Dragon fans who don’t get tickets or don’t feel ready to head to the stadium in person, there’s a perfect solution. This year, you can livestream the game, watching it from the comfort of your home. The livestream of the game will be available through the free Southlake Carroll Dragon Athletics App, available on the App Store and the Google Play Store. The game play-by-play will be provided by Chuck Kelly of MetroSports DFW.
Seniors Set To Be Honored
While it may look different this year, the team's senior class will still be honored this season. Because of COVID-19, the seniors will be recognized without escorts. Photos with their parents will be done at a different date under the direction of their coach or sponsor, according to Carroll ISD.
First Matchup Between These Teams in Years
On the football side of things, this will be the first time in recent memory that these teams will go head-to-head. With no history to back them up, the Dragons will be facing off against Rockwall-Heath with no past experience to guide them. In their last game, Rockwall-Heath defeated Lewisville 72-52, showing off their strong offense. With their own offensive talent behind them, this should be an interesting game for the Dragons.
It’s Quarterback vs. Quarterback
Among everything else, this game will also feature a quarterback matchup like no other. Southlake Carroll’s Quinn Ewers and Rockwall-Heath’s Josh Hoover are both in the class of 2022 — pitting junior quarterback against junior quarterback. A three-star quarterback, Josh Hoover had 2,926 passing yards last season, with 32 passing touchdowns and only seven interceptions, according to MaxPreps. While that is less than Ewers’ 4003 passing yards, 45 passing touchdowns and three interceptions, Josh Hoover should not be underestimated — especially after last week’s 72-52 win over Lewisville.
