Carroll Dragons keep shining even after graduation. Former Dragon Jake Oldroyd was named one of the finalists for the Lou Groza Award, which is given to college football’s top place-kicker.
Currently attending Brigham Young University, Jake was a finalist along with place-kickers from the University of Miami and the University of Alabama.
Jake “finished the year a perfect 13-for-13 on field goals, the most by an FBS kicker without a miss this season. More than half of those kicks came from at least 40 yards out, including three from over 50,” the Lou Groza Award website says.
While the award went to the place-kicker from the University of Miami, Jake Oldroyd did win the Lou Groza fan vote.
The finalists were honored virtually at the 29th Annual Lou Groza Collegiate Place-Kicker Awards Virtual Awards Celebration, streamed live on January 4, according to the award’s website. Former Lou Groza Award winners include Mason Crosby, Randy Bullock and Dan Bailey.
