Southlake continues to shine on the national soccer stage.
Two former Lady Dragons — midfielder Kennedy Fuller (Angel City FC) and defender Zoe Matthews (Dux Logrones, Spain) — earned call-ups to the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team Training Camp, running Oct. 22-30.
The camp, running at the University of Kansas Health System Training Center in Kansas City, is the first for new U-20 head coach Vicky Jepson. It will overlap with the senior U.S. Women’s National Team’s training from Oct. 27-29, giving the young players a chance to observe and learn from established stars as they prepare for upcoming competitions.
The 2026 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup will take place next year in Poland from Sept. 5-27. The USA is one of 12 nations to already qualify for the tournament, doing so at the 2025 Concacaf Women’s U-20 Championship last June. The tournament will feature 24 countries, per USA Soccer.
Fuller graduated from Carroll a year early and chose to go pro, joining Angel City FC over a scholarship offer from the University of North Carolina. As a high school freshman at Carroll, Fuller was both The Dallas Morning News and Gatorade’s Texas Player of the Year, after scoring three of the Lady Dragons' four goals in the state championship win. As a sophomore, Fuller led the Lady Dragons with 55 goals and 26 assists over a 29-1 season on her way to being named Gatorade’s National Girls Soccer Player of the Year in 2023.
Matthews and another former Lady Dragon soccer star, Abby Mills, were invited to the Under-19 and Under-18 joint Women's National Team camp, held June 24-July 1 in Fayetteville, Georgia. Mills was one of seven defenders on the U-19 roster, and Matthews was one of eight defenders on the U-18 roster.
Matthews holds the distinction of being the youngest player ever signed by the Houston Dash of the National Women's Soccer League when she was 17. She made her NWSL debut in 2024 and recently signed a two-year contract that keeps her with Houston through 2026.
Fuller and Mills also played for the U-20 team over the summer in CONCACAF play. The women fell to Canada in the semifinals, 1-0.
